Atchafalaya Resilience Hub Planning Underway in St. Mary Parish

Local Leaders and Experts Collaborate on Long-Term Water and Storm Resilience Solutions
Regional Resilience Planning Underway in St. Mary Parish
Local leaders in St. Mary Parish are working closely with university researchers and statewide experts to develop a comprehensive plan for storm and water resilience. This effort builds on recommendations made by the Urban Land Institute following their 2018 panel visit, which identified the potential for long-term economic growth through the creation of a resilience hub in the region.
The planning process is being led by The Water Institute of the Gulf, based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was made possible through decisive action by the St. Mary Parish Council, which allocated federal RESTORE Act funding to support the initiative. This collaborative work will continue into 2025, laying the foundation for a more resilient and economically vibrant Atchafalaya region.
